Adam Recker was awarded $1,000 as the Northern Ohio Chapter Scholarship winner. Adam is a senior at The University of Findlay in the undergraduate program (Environmental Safety and Occupational Health Management). He is a student member of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Greater Detroit Chapter, Region VII. Adam’s academic coursework and two (2) summer internships with BP has developed his skills. His writing skills, initiative, and ability to meet deadlines makes him a valuable member of The University of Findlay Environmental Safety and Occupational Health (ESOH) department. Adam’s extracurricular activities are quite impressive, but his depth of skills and qualities cannot be communicated in a simple list of extracurricular activities. As an officer of the student section of ASSP, first year through senior peers look up to him for guidance both in the professional and academically matters. This year in addition to his extracurricular activities, Adam participated in the STEM in the Park activity. This activity was able to make contact with over 400 students in the Northwest Ohio region and encourage study in a STEM related major. Academically and professionally during his internship he has dealt with complex IH issues. BP exposure monitoring challenges are varied; however, working with his mentor Adam has generated innovative ideas and concepts that protect employees. Adam is the total ESOH professional. He balances research projects, and community service, while maintaining outstanding grades. Adam is a qualified individual who has much to contribute to the Environmental Safety and Occupational profession. The scholarship award is a vital part of ASSP foundation work to prepare the next generation of professionals for the challenges of an ESOH career.
