     8:00 am - 12:00 pm

Please join the Mid-Michigan Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSP) in welcoming Tim Kearney, 3M Senior Account Representative and Hearing and Communications Specialist for the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley Regions, to the Okemos Conference Center for an amazing Hearing Loss Prevention Seminar.

As a result of the ever expanding range of choices for passive hearing protection and/or protective communication devices, it is increasingly challenging to select and fit employees with the correct hearing protection to ensure the prevention of occupational hearing loss. This presentation will review the various categories of passive ear plugs, earmuffs, banded protectors and electronic level dependent protective devices as well as the available quantitative testing systems available to validate the protection of the selected protective device for each user. A case study will be presented which will reinforce the benefits of adopting the NHCA/NIOSH/OSHA Alliance Best Practice of Individual Fit Testing for users of Hearing Protection Devices. The importance of addressing the protective hearing and audibility requirements for critical activities will also be reviewed. A case study will be presented which will reinforce the benefits of adopting the NHCA/NIOSH/OSHA Alliance Best Practice of Individual Fit Testing for users of Hearing Protection Devices.

At the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe the Seven Elements of an Effective Hearing Conservation Program
  • Assemble an EARfit Validation Testing System and perform individual fit testing of both Earplug and Earmuff HPD users. Describe the influence of other personal protective products (PPE) on the performance of hearing protection devices.
