Position Summary
Florence Cement Company is seeking an experienced Construction Safety Director to lead and
continuously improve our company-wide safety program. This individual will work closely with
executive leadership, operations, human resources, and field personnel to promote a strong safety
culture, ensure regulatory compliance, reduce risk, and protect the well-being of our employees.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate, maintain, and continuously improve the company’s safety program, policies,
and procedures. - Communicate safety initiatives, program updates, and recommendations to executive
leadership. - Partner with Human Resources during employee onboarding to ensure new hires receive
required safety orientation, training, and personal protective equipment (PPE). - Conduct regular jobsite visits to identify hazardous conditions, observe work practices,
and provide coaching to promote a safe work environment. - Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, near misses, property damage, and utility
strikes to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions. - Prepare timely and detailed incident reports and coordinate insurance reporting and
documentation. - Work closely with the company’s insurance agency and captive representatives to
develop risk control and claims management strategies. - Assist with workers’ compensation and general liability claims.
- Develop, coordinate, and conduct company safety meetings, annual training programs,
and regulatory training requirements. - Maintain OSHA/MIOSHA logs, records, certifications, and all required safety
documentation. - Monitor changes in federal, state, and local safety regulations and implement necessary
updates to company policies and procedures. - Ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA, MIOSHA, DOT, and other regulatory
requirements. - Promote a positive safety culture through employee engagement, education, and
accountability.
Qualifications - Minimum of two years of construction safety experience; five to ten years preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Environmental Health and
Safety, or a related field preferred. Equivalent construction safety experience will be
considered. - Strong knowledge of MIOSHA, OSHA, and DOT regulations and construction safety
standards. - Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analyses, and implementing
corrective actions. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively train and
influence employees at all levels of the organization. - Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced
construction environment. - Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
