Join the ASSP’s GREATER DETROIT CHAPTER as we dive into the world of pesticides. This presentation will provide attendees with an introduction to MDARD pesticide section and its role in pesticide regulation in Michigan, common pesticides, use and safety tips, and an overview of IPM, why to use this approach for pest management and how to implement it.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Describe MDARD’s role in pesticide regulation, education, and responding to pesticide-related incidents.
- Identify pesticide products and the key information needed to properly use the product to protect themselves, others, and the environment.
- Consider integrated pest management to address pest issues with strategies that minimize pesticide use risks and maximize effective results.
PRESENTER BIO:
Emily Pochubay is the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s IPM and Public Health Pest Specialist. Her role is to provide education and outreach to the public and regulated industries on topics related to IPM and pests of public health concern. Emily is an entomologist by training; she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Entomology from Michigan State University. Prior to joining MDARD in 2021 as a pesticide inspector, Emily spent eight years as the Fruit IPM Extension Educator with Michigan State University where she conducted pest management research and delivered IPM education to Michigan fruit farmers.
